This April, for the first time in history, Wilcox County, Georgia had a racially integrated prom. Neither Wilcox County High School nor the school board has ever sponsored a prom, leaving it up to parents to organize their own "private parties." Mysteriously, the black students, about 50% of the student body, are never invited.
Several students had finally had enough and organized their own "private-party", except everyone was invited and they called it a prom. It was refreshing to see young adults taking a stand against something they knew was wrong.
The school board of Wilcox County announced yesterday, May 23, that they will be sponsoring a schoolwide prom next year.
